Financial literacy and IT employable skills development

We are implementing an IT women empowerment program to empower girls and young women living in the slums of Kawempe division with IT employable skills that can enable them to earn a living.

The IT employable skills development curriculum has been designed to empower youth who dropped or were forced out of school with IT employable skills. It was started due to the demands of the commercial sex workers supported by Somero Uganda.

In 2012, we secured a 3-year project (IT women empowerment) with “Nord-Süd-Brücken” organization in Berlin Germany. The project developed the IT literacy program into IT employable skills training young women in Graphics, computer maintenance and repair, secretarial and photo and video editing. The project also integrated Sexual reproductive health education and financial literacy into the program. Until 2014, 350 young women have been trained and secured jobs in IT related area and also gained information on sexual Reproductive health.

Currently the project is being supported by our partner Somero Germany www.somero.de a group of youth in Germany who save part of their income to support young women in Uganda.
